If you’ve been gaming on PC for a while, you probably know most of the games you once played on the PS2, PS3, or Xbox 360. But if you’ve been gaming on PC for a while, you most likely still know most of the games you once played on the PS2, PS3, or Xbox 360. Unless you’ve been gaming on PC for a while, that is. Unless you’ve been gaming on PC for years.
In addition, PlayStation 4 Pro will not only look better in games, it will also be faster. In a new blog post, Sony states that the new console will be 25% faster in some titles. In a recent interview, Sony’s Shuhei Yoshida confirmed that the upcoming console will be capable of playing games in 4K resolution at 30 frames per second. Additionally, Sony promises that games will run in native 4K resolution when using a Television with a 4K resolution.
It’s been a while since I posted something new, but I wanted to post something that I’ve been thinking about for a while that I didn’t want to let go. I have a GameCube controller that I use with Project64, but I’ve recently found that it’s not the most comfortable controller for me. For example, the shoulder buttons are way too close to the center of the controller, which makes it tough to get comfortable, and I’ve found that I have to reach way too far to get the D-pad to work. I also find the triggers are too close together, especially since I have to press down on both of them to get the analog sticks to work.
So I had the opportunity to play Far Cry 6, Ubisoft’s next first-person shooter game. I had approximately four hours of hands-on time, and I’m here to tell you about it.
I should point out that this was a livestreamed event, so I wasn’t able to witness the game in its whole. However, the latency didn’t totally ruin my experience, so there’s that. That means I used a keyboard and mouse to play Far Cry 6 on PC. At the time, the controller wasn’t functioning for me!
I spent the first hour getting to know Yara’s character and environment by playing the introductory levels. I portrayed the male version of Dani, who was attempting to flee the nation but failed miserably. The boat he was on was seized, and we see how ruthless Antón Castillo (Giancarlo Esposito) is as a leader of his nation, ready to shoot fire on his own people. Anyway, to cut a long tale short, we wind up doing missions for the Libertard guerilla fighters, and that’s when the game starts to teach us the game mechanics.
You’ll feel right at home with Far Cry 6 if you’ve played any of the previous Far Cry games! As is customary, after holding your hand, the game releases you into a wide and rich open-world filled with culture and mayhem. That’s the only way I know how to describe it. I’m enjoying the vibe of a hamlet one minute and battling Antón Castillo’s military thugs the next. We learn a little more about Antón Castillo’s idea of how he wants to unify his nation by utilizing something called “Viviro”! Basically, it’s some sort of medication that will help him take his nation to the next level. Antón Castillo constantly demands your attention whenever he is on film, which is fantastic. The whole game is spoken third-person action, and it’s a lot of fun to see all of these characters interact with one another. Far Cry 6’s best feature, in my opinion, will be its story and storyline.
However, it seems that this is the only aspect of Far Cry 6 that I like. The villains are fantastic, but without them, there isn’t much to keep me interested in continuing to play. As I previously said, if you’ve played any of the other Far Cry games, you’ll see that this one is quite similar to them. The gunplay was good (and in some ways, better), and I had the opportunity to test out a number of weapons, all of which I liked. The opponents weren’t terrible, but they weren’t fantastic either (bearing in mind that what I played wasn’t the final build).
Enough is enough! In my playthrough, I decided to take a more stealthy approach to the game, which I found to be more enjoyable than just rushing about and shooting everything down, requiring me to understand the structure of a base and the different enemy kinds. When I was caught, though, it was pandemonium, with bullets coming at me from all directions, causing enough damage that I felt compelled to seek cover and take them out one by one. In my view, the opponents weren’t full-fledged sponges, but they could withstand a few bullets before succumbing. Even a headshot didn’t kill them all in one shot, as I had hoped.
Aside from that, I had my gator buddy, whom I could employ to distract my foes by directing him towards them. In fact, I recall that there were more creatures that I might have as a pet but that I was unable to unlock. With the concept of being stranded on an island shut off from the rest of the world, unlocked items are scarce. Since leveling up is linked to your arsenal, collecting up goods and scraps is important. As a result, you’ll be spending a lot of time at the many workbenches strewn around Yara.
As the name implies, you may utilize them to create the weapons you’ll need to take on Antón’s army. So, if your opponent is wearing riot armor, you’ll probably want to carry a penetrating bullet, and so on. To be honest, there’s nothing out of the usual, and I didn’t feel compelled to use it until the game specifically requested it, but that’s just how I play. If I don’t have to, I seldom construct or make anything. There are many of choices, ranging from assault rifles, handguns, and snipers to the outlandish, such as an electroplate gun or a flamethrower. Oh, the weaponry in the game become wild, allowing you to get creative with what you discover in the Yara fields.
In terms of navigation, Far Cry 6 offers all of the usual options! There are many ways to travel about, including stealing vehicles, boats, and helicopters, as well as utilizing horses, a parachute, and a glider. And, based on what I observed, you’ll want to utilize the vehicles since the map is massive! Of course, a large map does not always imply a good experience, but to be honest, knowing that the area is large didn’t make me any more excited; it simply meant that there would be a lot of tiny side tasks strewn around. Except for the boat, I was able to utilize all of the accessible vehicles, and they all handled nicely in my view. Let’s take a look at some of the missions I completed throughout my game.
As I previously said, I mainly performed instructional missions in the first hour, but after that and some exploring, I was then allowed out a little farther into the game storyline to explore everything Far Cry 6 has to offer. Whenever feasible, I like to play most open-world games in stealth mode! They had me infiltrate a base on one operation for Libetard in order to get a key required for another task. I can tag opponents, weapons, chests, and anything else essential in-game with my phone. Then I had to figure out how I was going to get to the base. There were many choices, but I picked the one that included swimming into the base from a tunnel. In the game, stealth is extremely intriguing since opponents respond strangely. When you went close to one of the adversaries, they would come over to inspect, but the AI isn’t clever enough to be more aware of the surroundings. Instead, they just come to a halt and gaze about. Not to add that they do not warn their colleagues to be on the lookout in order to increase the tension. It never notifies the other guards when you murder an opponent with your knife and they scream out their death cry in agony.
Perhaps it’s because I’ve been spoilt by previous games, but it disappointed me. I know I have high expectations for a Far Cry game, but I felt that killing someone in the middle of a walkie-talkie discussion should warn others in the vicinity that something is really wrong.
Overall, I enjoyed playing Far Cry 6. Nothing out of the ordinary here; it’s simply another Far Cry game. However, in the four hours that I had to play, that’s all I got to do. If you’ve ever played a Far Cry game, you’ll feel right at home with this one. Depending on who you ask, the characters range from decent to outstanding, but the villain seems to be one that most people will want to see. Anyway, that’s my take on the game; in the meanwhile, you may decide for yourself by watching my gameplay!
