Fortnite has built a reputation not just for its fast-paced gameplay and unique game mechanics, but also for its massive collection of character skins. There are hundreds of different skins to collect and choose from; some of these cosmetics have become incredibly rare and sought-after, usually due to their early release, exclusive promotions, or special events. These rare skins spark the same kind of discussion as other niche forms of entertainment, whether it’s retro gaming, trading card collecting, or even live casino nj platforms.
1 – Renegade Raider
The Renegade Raider remains the holy grail of Fortnite skins, due to the fact that it was only released during season 1 in 2017. To acquire the skin, players need to reach level 20 and then purchase it from the season shop. As Fortnite was in its infancy and did not have the player count it does today, not many players had the chance to purchase the skin. The Renegade Raider now symbolizes the hardcore Fortnite players.
2 – Aerial Assault Trooper
The Aerial Assault Trooper, also from season 1, is even rarer in numbers but not quite as visually appealing as the Renegade Raider. Players had to achieve level 15 and pay for it, which was no small feat at the time. Spotting this skin in 2025 is like seeing a living piece of Fortnite history.
3 – Black Knight
As part of chapter 1 of Fortnite’s second season, the Black Knight required players to reach tier 70 of the battle pass, and it became the first skin to have status attached to its name. During this period of Fortnite, it was not as common for players to achieve all the tiers in the battle pass, making the Black Knight a skin for the dedicated players who grinded levels to receive this coveted skin.
4 – Galaxy
Released as part of a collaboration with Samsung in 2018, the Galaxy skin required the purchase of a Galaxy Note 9 or Tab S4 device. Its design was completely different from anything that had been released previously, and certain players purchased the Samsung product simply to get the skin. But only a small number of players did this, and with the promotion ending years ago, this means the majority of players do not own the Galaxy skin.
5 – Honor Guard
Similar to the Galaxy skin, the Honor Guard skin was tied to a phone promotion, this time with the Honor View 20. The cost of the phone, combined with the limited duration of the promotion, made for an incredibly rare skin, with its sleek blue design instantly recognizable to skin collectors.
6 – Ikonik
Similar to previous entries on this list, the Ikonik skin was bundled with the Samsung Galaxy S10 in 2019. The bundle was inspired by South Korean pop group iKON, with its blend of gaming and pop culture. This skin was very desirable, but once again, due to the fact that it was tied to an expensive phone bundle, the skin was not acquired by many players. Since the promotion ended shortly after its release, this has made the Ikonik skin one of the more scarce amongst collectors.
7 – The Reaper
Nicknamed the “John Wick skin” by the community, The Reaper was the tier 100 reward in chapter 1, season 3. Because not every player completed the Battle Pass grind, it has become a badge of honor in the Fortnite community. The Reaper became synonymous with the best players, and if you came up against one in-game, you automatically knew you were in trouble. While Fortnite later added an official John Wick skin, The Reaper remains unique and valuable due to its history and difficulty to obtain.
8 – Ghoul Trooper (Original Version)
The original version of the Ghoul Trooper was released in 2017 during Fortnite’s first Halloween event. While Epic Games has re-released the skin since, the original version remains exclusive to those who bought it during its first appearance. That distinction makes the early version one of the most respected rare skins in the game.
9 – Sparkle Specialist
Sparkle Specialist was available as a reward from chapter 1, season 2’s Battle Pass. Its disco-inspired design stood out at the time, and because the Battle Pass model locks skins to a specific season, it will never return. Owners of this skin are instantly recognizable as OG Fortnite players.
10 – Double Helix
The Double Helix skin came as part of a Nintendo Switch Fortnite bundle in 2018. Players had to purchase the special edition console to unlock it, which significantly limited its availability. Because the console itself is now a collector’s item, Double Helix remains one of the rarest skins tied to hardware promotions.
