Path of exile 2 is a big game, and it just keeps getting bigger, so you might be asking yourself “What’s next?” Let’s get into it!
Path of Exile 2 is still in early access, but it’s far from a small game. Right now the current league, this game’s version of a season, is ending and another one in the horizon. Let’s dive into what to expect and what else is in the horizon.
You should get in while the getting is good! Maybe you bought the game and dropped it, waiting for more content to arrive, or maybe you are just now purchasing your early access key. Whatever the reason might be, if you want to check out all the content quickly, I would recommend you Purchase POE 2 currency to quickly get past a lot of the game’s early hurdles!
Version 0.2.0
As of writing this article we’re very near the launch date for Path of Exile 2’s version 0.2.0 and with it there comes a lot of changes! New classes could be coming as well as many changes to the game’s meta and a new league will begin! Exciting times for PoE 2 indeed. Let’s get into some of this info. A lot of this will be speculative.
New Classes
There’s currently only 6 classes in PoE 2 but when the game hits 1.0 there should be 12. In this new update, we will probably see a new class enter the fray. As of writing this article, it hasn’t been officially confirmed which class it is. But with the new update donning the name “Dawn of the hunt,” I think it’s fairly clear that the most probable class will be “The Huntress.” Here’s some of what you can expect of this class:
The huntress is a hybrid dexterity class that utilizes spears to combine both medium and close range combat. Their only downside is their lack of health, so make sure to keep your distance! She can even imbue her spears with elemental damage, making her even deadlier.
She will, of course, come with up to 3 ascendancies like every other character in the game when 1.0 comes out. It’s unknown how many she will have when the new update drops.
Of course a new class means new weapons and new skill gems which is something I’m very much looking forward to!
While anticipating the fresh experiences of new classes, custom pins incorporating the unique character of each Path of Exile 2 class allow players to embody their passion for the game. If you prefer the Hunter class, you can design your pin with its iconic spear. If you’re particularly drawn to classic classes, you can incorporate elements like the Gladiator’s weapon silhouette or the Assassin’s shadowy symbol into your design. Pin designs are free, and customization is quick.
This small pin can be pinned to a backpack or collar, becoming a unique identifier for players, instantly recognizing them as one of your own. It can also be collected, bringing back memories of the thrilling moments of controlling the corresponding class in the game, allowing your virtual love to leave a personal mark in the real world.
Ascendancies
It’s heavily rumored that this patch could also introduce a third ascendancy for already existing classes. Which ones or how many is unknown, but it’s certainly nice to know that even the old classes are getting some love in this new update.
New League
A league in Path of Exile 2 is very much like a season in other games. Except in this game it works a little different. Let’s make a short explanation, just in case you’re new to this.
A league is a world instance in which new mechanics and events take place. When you create a character, you can choose to have them be in place in a league instance or in a regular one. Once the league ends, your character gets moved to the “regular” instance. So each time you want to take place in a league, you will have to create a new character and start from scratch.
This new league will come out in April, after patch 0.2.0. With it there will be:
- New gameplay elements to keep the game fresh for old players.
- An economy reset. Changing the value and demand of every resource.
- New skill gems and mechanics. Ensuring a change in the meta and build creation.
- Overall balance adjustments.
It’s easy to see why this new league is exciting stuff for everyone. If you’re willing to part with an old character, play in the new league you’ll find fresh and new content to keep you on your toes!
Rumors
I wanted to keep this separated from the rest because these are some of the more far fetching rumors from the community, but regardless I wanted to mention them.
It’s rumored that this update could bring a new chapter of the campaign. We’re already 3 of the 6 chapters that are expected to be in the game at full release. Some corners of the internet seem to think maybe we could get chapter 4 (or even 5 as well, although I personally don’t believe this). A new chapter would be a great addition as it would come with new zones to explore and enemies to defeat and, of course, we get to continue the game’s fantastic story. A lot of the work the devs are putting into the early access is mainly to balance the game and give it good quality of life. It would really be a good surprise to find out we’re getting a new chapter.
The Future
We spoke a lot about this upcoming update, but let’s focus a little but on what’s beyond the horizon. Let’s talk about the content that is to be expected in version 1.0.
Version 1.0 is expected to come out around June 2025. That’s not that far!
With it, we’re supposed to have 12 classes with 3 ascendancies each. That’s a grand total of 36 completely different play styles to try out! We talked about the huntress, but the devs have also shown a bit of the Druid class, which can transform into different animals to help in battle. There’s also the Gladiator, the Assassin, the Marauder, and the Templar. I’m very excited to see how all of these classes play!
We mentioned the campaign. We’re only halfway into the story, and there’s more to come. With a total of 6 chapters, who knows what kind of sights we’ll get to see and what sorts of monsters we’ll face. I’m definitely looking forward to finding out.
In conclusion
Path of Exile 2 is no joke. It’s just starting out, and it’s already such a behemoth of the industry. Bringing its ARPG action to everyone, and once it’s out and becomes Free to Play, it’ll be even more popular with gamers worldwide! Exciting things are coming, and I plan to be there when they do. Do you?
